We’re working to strengthen the healthcare workforce in Central Texas by building a strong K–12 talent pipeline. Through dedicated workgroups, we connect students to career pathways, profiles, and industry data to help them make informed decisions about their future.

The Targeted Occupations List and Career Planning pages can help clients identify the best job opportunities in the Austin-Travis County region.
Through Climb the Ladder CTX, students and educators can explore a wide range of local career opportunities in healthcare, IT, skilled trades, and manufacturing. The site features career awareness videos, classroom resources, and up-to-date information to help connect learning to real-world career paths.
Workforce Solutions Capital Area also has dedicated K-12 Career Specialists who can support students and educators with career exploration activities, presentations, and customized guidance.

CTHP has a dedicated listserv to address K12 issues and opportunities in healthcare. To join the listserv and become involved email k-12awareness@wfscapitalarea.com.
All CTHP K-12 events are listed on the Climb the Ladder CTX website to help students and schools to stay engaged with activities and opportunities.
Clinical Placements are available for local health science programs at the hospitals for observation only. These are limited experiences and should be scheduled through your CTE director.

Healthcare shortage occupations are featured in a monthly packet for high school teachers featuring career profiles, lesson plans, occupation focused videos, and hands-on simulation projects.
The Central Texas Healthcare Partnership is partnering with Austin Community College and two ISD partners to offer level 1 and level 2 certification for high school students in five healthcare tracks.
Workforce Solutions Capital Area hosts nursing academies for high school seniors in the Central Texas area, allowing students to explore nursing career paths by offering hands-on opportunities for students to experience simulations in patient care. The program addresses the region’s critical nursing shortage, the largest gap in healthcare employment, by inspiring the next generation of skilled healthcare workers and highlighting the vital role nurses play in our communities.
